Formatting FAQs
What type of files are supported for importing?
.CSVs but comma delimited is preferred
Please make sure you have titles at the top of the columns of each data field you intend on importing. You must have a phone number field in order to import contacts into Mobiz.
Does it matter if the phone numbers have dashes, parenthesis, or spaces?
No our system auto detects this and reformats. It is preferred if you can have numbers in either one of the following formats: 404222333 or 1404222333 (country code in front).
File formatting errors that will cause an error when uploading your file.
Blank rows : Make sure your CSV does not have any blank rows within the file.
Double quotation marks ["] : If you are trying to quote something within a cell, make sure you use the single quotation marks ['] and not double quotation marks ["].
What if all my contacts are not going into Mobiz after importing and providing errors?
After importing Mobiz provides a banner confirming your imports were accepted and are being processed. After processing, you'll see an updated banner with the total amount that were accepted vs errored out. You'll be able to download the file of errors with the contacts and reasons for erroring out.
Most common reasons for failures include:
1) duplicates (number already exists in the list)
2) improperly formatted number (foreign numbers to invalid)

How to import contacts via CSV
Navigate to Contacts in the top navigation, and click Add contacts followed by Import multiple from the drop down options.
Step 1: Upload file
Click drop files here box area or simply drag-and-drop your approved file into to designated area to upload.
You will then check both boxes at the bottom of the page. This is to confirm contact permissions. This confirms your contacts have given explicit consent to receive text messages from you. You can learn more in Understanding permissions.
Step 2: Confirm columns
You will now be prompted to confirm your column headers. It is important that the first row in your CSV contains your column headers otherwise the import will not work.
Step 3: Map the data
By clicking on the dropdown menus above each column, you will be able to indicate what data is housed in each column and map your data. Create custom columns for any information that you doesn't match the default columns. Learn how to do that in our Creating custom columns article.
For example, column one = first name and column two = mobile number. Please note, any unassigned columns will not be imported.
Step 4: Number lookups
Decide whether you want to run your CSV file through number lookups. Number lookups is a process where a customer's phone number is checked to confirm if it’s active, reachable, and correctly formatted.
Once the import process has finished, Mobiz will run the number lookup on all imported contacts. If there are landlines present in your list, these numbers will be unsubscribed, and added to the unsubscribed tab within your contacts section. Whichever card is on file will be used to charge for the number lookup.
Unsubscribed numbers do not count towards your contact limit count and they can never be messaged through the Mobiz platform.
Step 5: Import
Review your import before beginning the upload.
Now, you can either select or create a list(s) to assign the contacts, or you can choose to add them only to your contact database.
Pro tip: Adding contacts to lists helps you to segment your audience when you create a campaign. Learn more about creating lists.
Once you are happy, click the Start Import button.
Depending on the size of your import, it may take a little while to upload your data. Don’t worry – we will alert you in the app when it’s done!
