How does credit usage and rollover work?
Your monthly credits are replenished each month on your billing date. They're used in this order:
- Current month's credits
- Rolled-over credits (valid for 1 month)
- Pay As You Go (PAYG) credits (valid for 12 months)
Unused monthly credits roll over for one additional month only. PAYG credits stay valid for a full year from purchase.
Can I top up my credits?
Yes — you can buy Pay As You Go (PAYG) credits at any time, and they're valid for 12 months.
Alternatively, you can upgrade your plan to get more monthly credits at a lower per-credit rate. Upgrading is usually more cost-effective than buying PAYG credits.
What do credits cost?
Pricing depends on your plan:
- PAYG (no monthly plan): $0.035 per credit
- Starter plan: $0.03 per credit
- Growth plan: $0.025 per credit
- Pro plan: $0.02 per credit
Higher-tier plans offer better value per credit.
What does a plain text SMS cost?
A standard SMS is charged by length:
- Up to 160 characters: 1 credit
- Longer messages are charged in segments of 153 characters
- The maximum length is 1,530 characters, which costs 10 credits
Why the drop from 160 to 153? A single SMS holds 160 characters. Once a message goes over that, it's split into multiple parts, and each part uses a few characters to tell the recipient's phone how to reassemble them in order — which leaves 153 characters per segment.
The total credits needed for your campaign are always shown before you send.
What does a picture text (MMS) cost?
- 1 MMS = 3 credits
- Includes up to 1,530 characters
- Charged per recipient, not per segment
What does an SMS/MMS to a landing page cost?
Sending an SMS or MMS to a landing page costs the same as a standard SMS or MMS:
- SMS: charged per segment (153 characters per credit, up to 1,530 characters = 10 credits)
- MMS: 3 credits per message
Including a landing page link doesn't add any cost — you're only charged based on the message type and length.
What does a test SMS/MMS cost?
A test SMS or MMS costs the same as a standard send:
- SMS: charged per segment (153 characters per credit, up to 1,530 characters = 10 credits)
- MMS: 3 credits per message
To save credits, use the in-app Preview mode to see how your campaign will look before sending a test.
What do Text to Join keywords cost?
Setting up a keyword is free. When a customer subscribes, though:
- 1 credit for the inbound message
- 1 credit for the outbound welcome message
That's a total of 2 credits per new contact.
What happens when my credits run low?
Once your credits reach 0, you can no longer send, and:
- Campaigns can't be sent
- Scheduled campaigns won't go out
- Automations stop enrolling contacts
- Text to Join keywords are disabled
- Incoming messages aren't received
- New contacts aren't added to your database
To start sending again, you'll need to either:
- Purchase PAYG credits, or
- Upgrade your plan
